Types of Primary Humidifiers

There are two primary humidifiers: power humidifiers and bypass humidifiers. These units can be controlled by either the digital control or with a Smart thermostat. They are:

Power Humidifiers

They use a fan to blow the moist air into the heating unit’s air stream. These units require their own outlet and can provide humidity in homes that range from 1600 to 4,200 square feet.

Bypass Humidifiers

These utilize the furnace blower to circulate the moist air into the air stream. Bypass humidifiers are primarily used in homes with up to 2,400 square feet that require less humidity or have limited space. These units run quieter than the power units.

Understanding the Role of Humidity in Indoor Air Quality

When you think about keeping the air in your house comfortable, you probably think about your heating and cooling systems. However, the humidity levels in your home have a major impact on your comfort and health. Which do you need to improve your indoor air quality – a humidifier or dehumidifier? It depends on your home’s existing moisture levels:

What is a Whole House Humidifier?

If you’ve ever felt oppressed by sweltering heat and humidity in the summer, you might think of humidity as a bad thing. In truth, humidity is necessary to keep your home healthy, especially in winter. The dry air your heating system produces in winter can cause issues like dry skin, sore throats, and even some respiratory problems. Airborne pollutants, including the flu virus, thrive in environments that have too little humidity. What’s more, the right level of humidity in your house can help you save energy costs by making you feel warmer even when the thermostat is turned low.

What is a Whole House Dehumidifier?

A dehumidifier works in conjunction with your humidifier. When the moisture levels in your home begin to get too high, the dehumidifier brings them back down again. This prevents mold and mildew growth, but it has other benefits as well. A whole house dehumidifier keeps your house from feeling muggy, improves air ventilation, and helps you feel cooler without the need to crank up your air conditioner. Reducing humidity levels in your home can even alleviate problems with allergies and asthma

Why Is Whole House Humidifier Installation a Good Idea?

When you think about humidifiers, you may picture a portable, standalone model. These are convenient, and if you have an apartment or a ductless home, a standalone whole house humidifier might be the right option for you. Be aware, though, that these models require more maintenance than central whole house humidifiers because they don’t connect to your water supply. A central whole house humidifier attaches to your central heating and cooling system. This kind of humidifier is quiet, out of sight, energy efficient, and low maintenance.

We Sell Whole Home Dehumidifiers

If your home has too much humidity, a whole house dehumidifier from Aprilaire® should do the trick. Featuring corrosion-resistant coils, and 100 percent made in the USA manufacturing, the Aprilaire® 1850 95 Pint Whole House Dehumidifier prevents damp carpeting and furniture upholstery. It’s easy to use and automatically turns on when the humidity level in the home exceeds the limit. All Aprilaire® dehumidifiers can be ducted or free standing. They last longer, are more reliable, and are not on a recall list, making them safer.
